Physical Activity

We do lots of fun and active physical sports here in TGNS. This includes orienteering, soccer, basketball, movement breaks, dancing, athletics, Sciath na Scol, Super Troopers, Fit for Feb.

The official opening of the Active School Walkway took place on Friday the 25th of March 2022. There are 14 different stops on our walkway and are not in order which makes it more of a challenge for the children. You will have to look up high and low down to find each one! In preparation for the official Launch on the 25th of March, the older students learned how to use the walkway properly. On the day of the launch, the older girls then helped the younger students to find each one. They had to find the letters on each poster. We were so lucky that this was another sunny day and we had a fantastic day.

This Active School Walkway is now used by all classes to promote physical activity and cross-curricular learning including maths, English, Geography etc.

As well as our amazing range of sports activities going on in our school all the time, we also use physical activity in our classrooms as part of our everyday routine. These Physical activities include; GoNoodle dances, yoga, Fti4Feb activities over the intercom and many more.

Regular physical activity helps develop your child’s fundamental movement skills (i.e. physical literacy). It can also help build healthy bones, muscles, heart and lungs. We encourage every child to get approximately 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
